Axion search with optical technique

چکیده
A brief review of particle physics motivations for axion existence is followed by a discussion of optical observables that can be used for axion detection. It is emphasised that the resonant photon axion transition can occur in the presence of low density gas bringing the experimentally accessible quantities within the reach of the present day technology. Resonantly Enhanced Axion-Photon Regeneration
Photon-regeneration experiments which search for the axion, or axionlike particles, may be resonantly enhanced by employing matched Fabry-Perot optical cavities encompassing both the axion production and conversion magnetic field regions. Compared to a simple photon-regeneration experiment, which uses the laser in a single-pass geometry, this technique can result in a gain in rate of order F 2,...
متن کاملAxion-photon couplings in invisible axion models.
We reexamine the axion-photon couplings in various invisible axion models motivated by the recent proposal of using optical interferometry at the ASST facility in the SSCL to search for axion. We illustrate that the assignment of U(1)PQ charges for the fermion fields plays an important role in determining the couplings. Several simple non-minimal invisible axion models with suppressed and enhan...
متن کاملGammeV: a gamma to milli-eV particle search at Fermilab
GammeV is an experiment conducted at Fermilab that employs the light shining through a wall technique to search for axion-like particles and employs a particle in a jar technique to search for dilaton-like chameleon particles. We obtain limits on the coupling of photons to an axion-like particle that extend previous limits for both scalars and pseudoscalars in the milli-eV mass range. We are ab...
متن کاملQuantum Analysis of Rydberg Atom Cavity Detector for Dark Matter Axion Search
The “invisible” axions 1,2,3 in the mass range ma = 10 eV − 10eV is one of the most promising candidates of non-baryonic dark matter. . The basic idea for the dark matter axion search is to convert axions into microwave photons in a resonant cavity under a strong magnetic field via Primakoff process, as originally proposed by Sikivie . After the pioneering searches with amplification-heterodyne...
متن کاملDetailed design of a resonantly enhanced axion-photon regeneration experiment
A resonantly enhanced photon-regeneration experiment to search for the axion or axionlike particles is described. This experiment is a shining light through walls study, where photons traveling through a strong magnetic field are (in part) converted to axions; the axions can pass through an opaque wall and convert (in part) back to photons in a second region of strong magnetic field. The photon...
